Weatherzone Expands Into South Africa With Investment in AfricaWeather

SYDNEY, 15 June 2015: Weatherzone, Australia’s largest commercial weather information provider, today announced its expansion into South Africa through an investment in the country’s leading commercial weather services company, AfricaWeather.
“The investment expands Weatherzone’s world-class meteorological solutions into South Africa and provides us access to AfricaWeather’s established information technology and weather information delivery infrastructure,” Weatherzone Managing Director, Charles Solomon, said.

“This investment represents a substantial growth opportunity for us and provides significant scale and technology synergies for both companies. AfricaWeather’s market strength, technical capabilities, focus on customer service and high entrepreneurial drive make it the perfect partner.”

Executive Chairman of AfricaWeather, Kgomotso Lekola, said AfricaWeather has a long history of being first to market with highly innovative commercial products and services.
Mr Lekola said: “Our success comes from understanding what our customers require and developing solutions that make a meaningful difference to them. We have had solid partners in the form of the South African Weather Services and this partnership has given us access to some of the best minds in the field of meteorology.”

AfricaWeather services 17 of the top 40 companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), spanning mining, media, aviation, recreation, schools and almost all insurance companies operating in South Africa.

“AfricaWeather is a like-minded business and we’ll work together to leverage our combined expertise in our common industries of mining, aviation, utilities and weather information syndication,” Mr Solomon said.

Weatherzone is the leading supplier of weather services to the mining, energy, aviation and weather syndication industries in Australia and has invested heavily in meteorological systems capability including forecasting, weather modelling, alerting and geospatial information systems over the past decade.

The commercial terms of Weatherzone’s investment in AfricaWeather are confidential.
